BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (CitizenWire) — In a show of support to the victims of the 12 January disastrous earthquake which devastated several main towns in Haiti, Palm Beach County Haiti Relief Coalition (PBC/HRC) is proud to announce a Call to Action Symposium to bring help and support to the many victims of this catastrophe. Port of Palm Beach Commissioner Wayne Richards, US Army Retired Major Joseph Bernadel of ReThinkHaiti.org, Ms. Cosy Clerge Joseph, of the Gaskov Clerge Foundation, and many other individuals and organizations from Palm Beach County, all of them members of PBC/HRC, have come together to organize this symposium.
Saturday, June 19, 2010
10:00 am – 12:00 noon
Palm Beach County Commission Chambers
301 North Olive Avenue, 6th Floor
West Palm Beach, FL 33401.
The idea of the symposium came about as a result of a recent trip to Haiti where members of PBC/HRC had traveled to deliver containers of goods and medical supplies to victims of the quake. They came face to face with large numbers of Haitian people living in inhumane and deplorable conditions in camps, precariously settled, in and near the Cities of Petionville and Port-au-Prince.
“It is unconceivable that an hour and a half away from Miami human beings should be made to live under these conditions,” said Commissioner Richards.
Cosy Joseph could not hold her tears as she visited the camps and spoke with the women and children. “The world has to know what is happening here and I plan to make my business to bring the condition of these children and women to the public forum in Florida.”
“Some four months after the disaster, many people who do not hear stories about it in the news, imagine the conditions to have improved or are back to normal,” said Major Joseph Bernadel, President of PBC/HRC, himself a native of Haiti.
U.S. Congressman Alcee Hastings, District 23, has embraced the efforts of PBC/HRC and agreed to be the Keynote Speaker at the June 19th event. The mayors of Port-au-Prince and Petionville will also attend the event. Other participating officials include Fl State Reps. Mack Bernard and Mark Pafford, PBC Comm. Priscilla Taylor and Jeff Koons, and many other distinguished guests.
