WASHINGTON, D.C. (CitizenWire) — Two-time Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor will travel to Moscow as a Sports Envoy to conduct beach volleyball clinics as part of an exchange conducted under the U.S.-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission. Building on previous Sports Visitor programs, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ (ECA) SportsUnited Office will send a delegation of American youth volleyball players and coaches to Russia for a beach volleyball exchange program August 6-21, 2010.

The coaches and youth, selected in conjunction with USA Volleyball, will be hosted by the Russian Volleyball Federation. This is the third sports exchange created under the auspices of the U.S.-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission’s Education, Culture, Sports and Media Working Group.

The American delegation of 10 boys and 10 girls, ages 14-18, and four USA Volleyball coaches will travel to Moscow for one week of volleyball clinics with Russian youth and cultural excursions. Their second week in Russia will be spent in the town of Anapa on the Black Sea coast, where they will have an opportunity to see a different side of Russia and practice at the state-of-the-art Volleygrad volleyball training center. This will be the first group of American youth athletes to travel overseas on a SportsUnited program.

Misty May-Treanor will join the delegation for part of the Moscow program, August 9-10. May-Treanor will conduct beach volleyball clinics for American and Russian youth participating in the program. She will also meet with ECA exchange program alumni at the American Center and attend a dinner hosted by the Russian Volleyball Federation and the Russian Ministry of Sport, Tourism, and Youth Policy.
