VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (CitizenWire) — KPJ Productions, Inc. announced today that Virginia Commonwealth University Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering candidate Brittany Poteet was crowned 2011 Miss Virginia USA this week at the Sandler Center in Virginia Beach, VA.
Poteet, 23, a resident of Richmond, VA bested a field of more than 25 competitors to be named MISS VIRGINIA USA and earned a spot to compete for the nationally televised 2011 MISS USA title to be held next spring. She will graduate in December with a Master of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University. Poteet says that upon completion of graduate school she would like to ” continue working in the field of Nuclear Engineering and promote the importance of science and mathematics to high school students.”
She is also particularly interested in researching cancer treatments using naturally occurring enzymes and dietary changes.
“We are so proud of Brittany. She is beautiful, intelligent, tremendously well educated and a shining example of what young girls should aspire to be,” said MISS VIRGINIA USA Executive Director, Kim Nicewonder Johnson.

Additionally, Poquoson resident and Poquoson High School Senior Susie Evans was crowned 2011 MISS VIRGINIA TEEN USA at the Sandler Center, Saturday evening.
Evans, an aspiring actress and film maker will compete for the 2011 MISS TEEN USA crown next summer. She won a special scholarship to the New York Film Academy in New York City at the event on Saturday night and was also the recipient of the congeniality award which is voted on by all the contestants.
